MFC Gets ‘TUF’

Edmonton’s Maximum Fighting Championship enters 2009 with a bang with some very decent additions to their middleweight division: Rory Singer and Solomon Hutcherson, both season three alumni of “The Ultimate Fighter,” along with WEC veteran Bryan Baker.

Singer and Baker will square off Feb. 20 at “Destined for Greatness,” which will be broadcast live on HDNet, and depending on the outcome, there is a possibility of a Singer-Hutcherson rematch in the future. The pair first met on the Spike TV reality series, with Singer emerging victorious by second-round TKO.

Baroni joins XMMA roster

Montreal’s XMMA has wasted little time in filling the void that was left in Quebec with the demise of TKO a few months ago, quickly becoming a destination for high-profile fighters in Eastern Canada.

XMMA 7 “Inferno” has secured the services of powerhouse Phil Baroni (13-10), who takes on rising Canadian Guillaume Delorenzi (5-0) in the main event. EliteXC standout Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos and former TKO lightweight champ Shane Rice also grace the card, while a lightweight title match between Kajan Johnson and Steve Claveau will also be waged.

Also on the card:

Martin Désilets vs. Todd Gouwenberg
Ryan Jimmo vs. Mike Nickels
Steve Claveau vs. Kajan Johnson
Thierry Quenneville vs. Douglas Evans
Dan Grandmaison vs. Markhaile Wedderburn
William Romero vs. Mitch Gagnon
Valerie Letourneau vs. Kate Roy
Daylin Logan vs. Dominic Poissant
Sebastien Deroy vs. Jeff Royer

Ask GSP

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has once again offered Sherdog.com readers the exclusive opportunity to ask him questions leading up to his Jan. 31 rematch with lightweight champ BJ Penn at UFC 94 in Las Vegas.

Many fans have already sent in their questions, but there’s still room for more. Send in your most original queries to acotterill@sherdog.com. Some of St. Pierre’s answers will be posted in upcoming editions of MM-Eh.
