KOTC Champs Pele and Faber Retain Belts

Following an entertaining opening stanza, lightweight Manny Tapia put Richard Goodman in a bad spot, stopping him 2:07 of round two.

Both men fought at a crisp pace to open the contest, though the lankier Goodman’s lunging shots were largely ineffective against the smaller, quicker Tapia.

As action moved into the middle round, Goodman’s attacks slowed, his lunges more pronounced. Tapia took advantage, putting the lightweight on the canvas. Covering as Tapia rained down shots, Goodman had no answer and referee Cecil Peoples was forced to save him.

Hector Ramirez smashed a left hook into Kendall Groves’ jaw, knocking out the Las Vegas-based light heavyweight 1:08 of the opening round.

The first 60 seconds was sloppy, with Ramirez scoring an early takedown only to see Groves quickly regain his feet. The two exchanged strikes before Ramirez, with Colin Oyama and Quinton Jackson in his corner, snapped the fight-ending punch.

Dave Terrel’s ability to takedown and control Ray Perales netted the Kobra Kai fighter a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). From the opening bell to the fight’s final minute, Terrel continually put Perales on his back, ground-and-pounding, though not hurting the welterweight.
