It didnt matter, though, because the K-1 was exhilarating with several of the marquee bouts ending in spectacular knockouts as well as some hidden upsets in there good measure. Who wouldve guessed that Carter Williams was going to get TKOed in the first round by Mighty Mo? Not I.
Marvin Eastmans near stoppage of eventual winner Michael McDonald had most of the sellout crowd on its feet until The Beastman was decked by some perfect left hooks. Tough luck, Marvin; you fought as hard as you could and went down swinging- literally. More people were pulling for you to win than you might expect.
Dewey Cooper, my boy, you came that close to winning the entire tournament! Congrats to you on your greatest night in your K-1 career. I certainly hope your ailing father is doing much better, brother. Let me know how everything is.
Las Vegas crowd + Bob Sapp = not many people care. His entrance and battle against Tommy Glanville left much to be desired. This isnt Tokyo, obviously, but in my opinion, Sapps presence at K-1 went virtually unnoticed. I reckon the fans in attendance have caught onto the fact that Sapp really isnt that good of a standup fighter and no longer are suckered into the Sapp hype machine. Sapps a good guy and all, but hardly any American fight fan wants to see him fight, especially since a vast bulk of his punches are illegal and he gets away with it. Trust me: the fight with Mike Tyson will never happen, not even in Japan.
