Bushido 8: Gomi Goes the Distance

Under Card

Chute Boxe fighter Daniel Acacio managed to handle all Kazuo Misaki’s attack to get a unanimous decision after two back-and-forth rounds.

Norwegian “Hell Boy” Joachim Hansen almost was caught in tight ankle lock but he managed to escape and land a devastating knee to Masakazu Imanari’s face when the Japanese fighter shot for a takedown. The sound of impact on the fight-ending knee was so brutal it echoed loud and clear throughout the entire Rainbow Hall.

In a super heavyweight clash, British powerhouse James Thompson displayed his power over Sumo wrestler Henry Miller, winning by knockout 1:31 of the first round.

In a battle of judo versus pro wrestling, U-file fighter Kazuki Okubo surprised everybody by beating Ryuichi Murata in the ground game. Okubo managed to survive several submission attempts from Murata, just to switch the tables and finish the beautiful armbar victory 9:30 of round one.

Brazilian fighter Marcus Aurelio literally paid with his blood to earn a decision victory over SHOOTO warhorse Jutaro Nakao. Nakao’s passive techniques offered the perfect opportunity for Aurelio’s non-stop attacks, which he utilized for takedowns and top control. Nakao managed to open a cut on Aurelio’s face, forcing him to bleed all over the place. Still this was not enough for the judges, who liked how Aurelio displayed his top ground skills.

Dennis Kang broke his hand three minutes into the first round of his rematch with Andrei Semenov, but managed to top the Russian middleweight to score a unanimous decision. Kang used the perfect combination of stand-up and ground skills to keep his opponent at bay. To Semenov’s credit he managed to land some good combinations on the feet but couldn’t do much on the ground to avoid Kang’s attacks.

To finish we have some breaking news for all Josh Thomson fans. Forget about his old “Punk” nickname and embrace his new PRIDE moniker “The Prince of the Cage.” Thomson had a difficult moment early on again Japanese jiu-jitsu machine Daisuke Sugie. “Amazon,” as he is known in SHOOTO circles, managed to score an early offensive when he took down, side mounted and nearly armbarred the American. But the AKA fighter reversed and scored a beautiful kneebar for his first win in PRIDE.
