Sherdog’s Top 10: Regional Fight Cards of All-Time

No. 1

1. World Extreme Fighting 8
Jan. 15, 2000 | Rome, Ga.

No one could have anticipated finding this much talent concentrated in a pocket of northwest Georgia. Looking back at what World Extreme Fighting organizers were able to put together for “Goin’ Platinum,” one has to wonder why the promotion did not stick around longer.

Jens Pulver shouldered the marquee, as he knocked out Phil Johns in 33 seconds in the main event, setting the crowd on fire to close out an unforgettable show. A little more than a year later, “Little Evil” became the UFC’s first lightweight champion. Pulver’s rout of Johns was just the icing on the cake.

Jose Landi-Jons waged a memorable war with Pat Miletich, until the corner for “The Croatian Sensation” requested the match be stopped. Meanwhile, LaVerne Clark took a decision from John Lewis, and Renato Sobral soccer kicked Brad Kohler for a second-round technical knockout. If that was not enough, future UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes was on hand to forge a doctor’s stoppage on Jorge Pereira after six minutes, and Brazilian icon Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira offered up another highlight by proving he was the better man against Jeremy Horn after three rounds.
