2. Chris Lytle


Lytle retired in 2011, but his body of work has stood the test of time. “Lights Out” attempted 31 submissions across a 20-fight stint in the Ultimate Fighting Championship that saw the Indianapolis native test his skills against his most accomplished contemporaries, from Matt Hughes, Matt Serra and Josh Koscheck to Robbie Lawler, Thiago Alves and Karo Parisyan. No one was safe when Lytle was on the hunt for a finish. He preferred traditional techniques but utilized more exotic means when necessary, tapping both Matt Brown and Jason Gilliam with a mounted reverse triangle choke-straight armbar combination. Lytle was awarded three “Submission of the Night” bonuses and reached the final of “The Ultimate Fighter 4” during a successful and often-overlooked career.
