2. Jose Aldo vs. Cub Swanson
WEC 41 “Brown vs. Faber 2”
June 7, 2009 | Sacramento, Calif.

World Extreme Cagefighting was loaded with talent and terrific fights, so it came as little surprise when parent company Zuffa folded it into the UFC. Aldo was one of the top stars that rose through the WEC ranks, and he entered his matchup with Swanson on the strength of four finishes against Alexandre Franca Nogueira, Jonathan Brookins, Rolando Perez and Chris Mickle. His WEC 41 co-main event with Swanson did not last long.

Swanson never had a chance. By the time he realized the fight had started, he was already turtled on the mat with blood pouring from a gash on his left eyebrow. Aldo had double kneed Swanson’s face, forcing him to spin and collapse. The Brazilian added a few follow-up left hooks before referee Steve Mazzagatti stepped in. The official time was eight seconds.

It remains the quickest knockout of Aldo’s career. He has since emerged as the sport’s premier featherweight and will carry an 18-fight winning streak into his next defense of the UFC title.
