It is never a good sign when the result of your loss becomes a verb for years to come. When Quarry challenged Franklin for the UFC middleweight crown less than a week before Thanksgiving at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, he had no idea he was on the road to becoming a permanent fixture on MMA highlight reels.

Franklin demonstrated his superiority early and often, as he controlled the pace and picked apart “The Ultimate Fighter 1” alum from the outside. Quarry struggled to keep up, and his situation only deteriorated after suffering a broken nose. Franklin then unfurled one of the most vicious straight lefts in MMA history, punching right through his challenger. Quarry stiffened like a statue and fell flat on his back, the knockout coming 2:34 into round one. With that, the term “getting Quarry’d” was born.
