2. Scott Smith vs. Pete Sell
“The Ultimate Fighter 4” Finale
Nov. 11, 2006 | Las Vegas

Few paid attention to the Smith-Sell matchup when it was announced, but they stole the show at “The Ultimate Fighter 4” Finale in November 2006.

Bloodied and battered was Sell, who continually pressed forward in an effort to slug with the former WEC champion. When Smith backed away along the fence in the second round, “Drago” nailed him with a perfect left hook to the liver. Smith doubled over and grimaced in pain, as he stumbled backward in clear retreat. For a brief moment, it looked like he was going to drop to a knee. An overzealous Sell raced toward him, sensing the finish was within reach. When Smith noticed the approaching doom, he let loose with a desperate right hook that connected out of nowhere. The blow knocked Sell senseless and produced one of the great Hail Mary finishes in MMA history.

Once the fight was over, Smith collapsed to the canvas, the agony too much for him to bear. He was nevertheless the victor.
