Ranking the PFL Fighters: Featherweights

Alexandre Bezerra

3. Alexandre Bezerra

Bezerra has an impressive 22-6 record that could be even better had the Brazilian not wound up on the wrong side of several contentious decisions. The former Cage Fury Fighting Championships titleholder competed in the PFL’s first season and reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs, losing another hotly contested battle to Andre Harrison. “Popo” seems intent on making the 2019 campaign his crowning achievement. The Alliance MMA product is a dynamic striker who has shown tons of explosion and raw athleticism. His flying knee knockout of Magomed Idrisov was one of the best of the PFL’s inaugural season. Bezerra has fast hands, stays busy behind an active jab and follows it with his powerful straight right. He also throws hard kicks to the body and head. Though the 31-year-old is not a strong offensive or defensive wrestler, he is a phenomenal grappler. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt chains together submission attempts from top and bottom position. He has 12 career submissions and nearly submitted Harrison several times in their two encounters. Bezerra’s biggest weakness might be his gas tank. In his first fight with Harrison, he slowed greatly in the fifth round. This should only become a problem if Bezerra reaches the final, and he appears to have the tools to do so. He has the look of someone on the cusp of something significant and arguably rates as the most well-rounded fighter in the competition.
