Women’s Flyweights

NR | Gillian Robertson (9-6, 6-4 UFC) vs. NR | Priscila Cachoeira (10-3, 2-3 UFC)

ODDS: Robertson (-360), Cachoeira (+300)

Robertson has been one of the more intriguing prospects over the life of the UFC’s women's flyweight division, but she could badly use a win. She came to the Octagon armed with a ferocious grappling game that earned her six wins—four via submission—in her first eight UFC bouts, but she has hit a clear ceiling in the last 12 months. While Robertson has put in some obvious work on the feet, she is still not a comfortable striker, and a clear athletic and power disadvantage against the likes of Taila Santos and Miranda Maverick led her to two deflating losses. There is a solid chance that this is just a period of growing pains until “The Savage” enters the prime of her career, but it is crucial that she stops her current skid. Cachoeira’s 2018 UFC debut was memorable for all the wrong reasons. A raw brawler who came to the promotion with an undefeated record, “Zombie Girl” was tasked with welcoming Valentina Shevchenko to 125 pounds and unsurprisingly got annihilated, suffering a variety of injuries in the process. From there, Cachoeira sparked some fun brawls and is now actually riding a two-fight winning streak, as she knocked out Shana Dobson quickly and outlasted Gina Mazany. Cachoeira still is not technically pretty, but she has a more varied striking game than you would expect, so her combination of durability and relentlessness could cause some trouble for Robertson and take her out of her comfort zone. With that said, this is also a fight where Robertson should have little trouble following her primary game plan and taking the action to the mat; and unlike Mazany, she has the finishing ability to get Cachoeira out of the Octagon in short order. The pick is Robertson via first-round submission.
