UFC 46: Supernatural - "Wrestling vs. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" illustrates the title match-ups as Hughes defends against Penn and "The Natural" grants "The Phenom" a rematch.
In a special Saturday night presentation of the "most dangerous game in a cage", the Couture/Belfort rematch headlines a solid eight-bout card. Matt Hughes defends his title for the third time in five events. His opponent is a bulked up version of B.J. Penn, the former lightweight title hopeful. With a horde of jiu-jitsu stylists on the card (Serra, Mir, Curran, Franca, Newton, Verissimo, St. Pierre and of course Penn and Belfort), a number of intense ground battles is guaranteed and we'll likely get a stand-up war out of Murray and Rivera.
The official line-up looks like this:
- Judo stylist Karo Parisyan battles Canadian jiu-jitsu fighter Georges St. Pierre
- English import Lee Murray makes his UFC debut against returning striker Jorge Rivera
- Former UFC Welterweight Champion Carlos Newton tangles with BJJ black belt Renato Verissimo
- American Kickboxing Academy fighter Josh Thomson returns to the cage against rising star Hermes Franca from the American Top Team
- Pedro Sauer Jiu-Jitsu fighter Jeff Curran squares off against Renzo Gracie protégé Matt Serra
- Ricardo Pires grappler Frank Mir and Hammer House giant Wes Sims pick up where they left off at UFC 43
- In the co-headliner, reigning UFC Middleweight Champion Matt Hughes faces former UFC Lightweight Champion B. J. Penn for the title
- And in the other co-headliner, reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture has a rematch of the UFC 15 Superfight against Brazilian Vitor Belfort
