Five of the combatants who took part in Thursday’s WEC
52 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas have
been suspended for up to six months by the Nevada State Athletic
Commission. The NSAC relayed the information to Sherdog via email
on Friday morning.
Among those suspended for 180 days was main event victor Urijah Faber, who may be cleared early by a physician. Faber reported to the post fight press conference with an ice pack on his left shoulder but dismissed the injury as minor.
Javier
Vazquez, loser of the evening's co-main event, was also slapped
with a six-month suspension pending a facial X-ray. Regardless, he
must spend at least 45 days on the shelf with no contact allowed
for 30 days. Undercard competitors Rafael Assuncao, Clint
Godfrey and Yves Jabouin
each received six-month sentences for various injuries.
Four other competitors also received medical suspensions, headlined by main event loser Takeya Mizugaki, who will be sidelined 45 days with no contact allowed for 30 days. Francisco Rivera and Zachary Micklewright were slapped with the same sentence as Mizugaki, and Edward Faaloloto must sit out for 30 days for an eyebrow laceration with no contact allowed for 21 days.
