By the middle of the second round, it had become clear all was not well with Chad Mendes. Something was amiss.
If true, such an illness would provide a reason for Mendes’ diminished offensive output in rounds two and three, where the two-time NCAA All-American relied on takedowns and top control against Lentz. The 28-year-old Hanford, Calif., native has won five fights in a row since being knocked out by featherweight champion Jose Aldo in January 2012.
