UFC Welterweight Tim Means Offers $1,000 Reward for Stolen Dogs in Albuquerque

UFC welterweight Tim Means isn’t taking his hometown’s missing dog problem lightly.

Over the past couple months, there has been an increase in stolen dogs in the Albuquerque area. The thefts are believed to be related to dog fighting rings, as the pets are either likely being used to fight or as bait, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Recently, Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry offered a $5,000 reward for information related to the crime. Local news station KOAT is reporting that Means has upped the ante, adding an additional $1,000 to sweeten the pot.

“My life is based on fighting, but I don’t have to be forced to be in a fight,” Means told koat.com.

Thus far, city officials have no leads on the stolen dogs, according to the KOAT report.

“I’m challenging everybody to come together, throw some type of money together and make a reward and let’s go find some scumbags,” Means said.

Means trains with the Albuquerque-based FIT-NHB team. The 31-year-old welterweight is 5-3 in the Octagon overall and is currently riding a three-fight win streak. Most recently, “The Dirty Bird” earned a first-round technical knockout triumph over Dhiego Lima at UFC 184 on Feb. 28.

The 30-fight veteran has a message for those involved in the alleged dog fighting ring in the Duke City.

“Come on down and sign a waiver and let’s force you to fight,” Means said. “Maybe not on the same terms. We’re not gonna fight to the death or nothing like that, but we can sure give you a whoopin.”
