The debut of “UFC Primetime: St. Pierre vs. Shields” earned 610,000 viewers on Spike TV.
Sherdog.com confirmed the statistics with an industry source, who also confirmed that an 11 p.m. re-air of the show on Thursday evening earned an additional 555,000 viewers on Spike TV. The show is meant to give viewers an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the two fighters leading up to their pivotal welterweight title clash.
“St. Pierre vs. Shields” marks the fifth installment of the “UFC Primetime” series, the first of which focused on St. Pierre's second fight with B.J. Penn at UFC 94. Three of the five iterations of the series have featured St. Pierre.
UFC 129 will go down from the Rogers Centre in Toronto April 30, as the UFC promotes its inaugural event in Ontario. Also featured on the card will be featherweight champion Jose Aldo, as he squares off with accurate striker Mark Hominick for the 145-pound strap. Additionally, UFC hall of famer Randy Couture will lock horns with fellow former champ Lyoto Machida in a light heavyweight affair.
