UFC 126 Draws 10K Spectators, $3.6 Million Live Gate

UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort,” which went down Feb. 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, officially drew 10,893 spectators for a live gate of $3.6 million, according to numbers released to Sherdog.com Tuesday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The live gate is the third-highest in the promotion’s history at Mandalay Bay, ranking only behind UFC 100 ($5.1 million) and UFC 79 ($5.0 million). Complimentary tickets handed out for Saturday’s event numbered 1,226.

The card was headlined by a middleweight title clash between longtime champion Anderson Silva and the resurgent Vitor Belfort. After a brief feeling out process, Silva landed a swift front kick to Belfort’s jaw that buckled the knees of “The Phenom” and spelled doom for his hopes at capturing another world title.

Also featured on the promotion’s Super Bowl weekend card were two pivotal light heavyweight affairs, as original “Ultimate Fighter” winner Forrest Griffin earned a unanimous decision victory over Rich Franklin, while Jon Jones was granted a title shot following his second-round submission of Ryan Bader.
