UFC 125 Garners $2.17M Gate

UFC 125 drew 12,874 spectators and netted a live gate of $2,174,780, according figures relayed to Sherdog.com today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Of the 12,874 in attendance, 6,978 paid for their admission. Another 5,896 attendees witnessed the event with complimentary tickets. There were 1,077 tickets that were neither paid for nor given away.

The event, which took place Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, was headlined by a thrilling main event title bout that saw lightweight king Frankie Edgar and challenger Gray Maynard fight to a five-round draw in a return match from 2008.

Maynard dominated the first round of the contest, dropping Edgar early and nearly finishing the champion. The challenger could not seal the deal, however, and Edgar made his way out for round two. From there, it was a highly competitive contest, as Edgar battled his way back into the fight. At the end of 25 minutes, the bout was ruled a split draw. The lightweights are scheduled to fight for a third time later in 2011.
