The UFC 173 bill is now without a co-main event, as Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Feb. 13 announced that Chael Sonnen’s light heavyweight clash with Wanderlei Silva has been pushed back by a week and will now headline a May 31 show in Brazil. City and venue details for the event are expected to be announced shortly. No reason was given for the change.
Sonnen and Silva are currently serving as coaches on the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” and they reportedly squared off in an unsanctioned physical altercation outside the cage during taping. Sonnen, 36, last competed on Nov. 16, when he suffered a first-round technical knockout loss to Rashad Evans at UFC 167. Silva, meanwhile, has not competed since March, when he knocked out Brian Stann in a “Fight of the Year” nominee at UFC on Fuel TV 8.
