Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder Cain Velasquez can envision a number of scenarios in which he defends his crown. Fighting American Kickboxing Academy stablemate Daniel Cormier is not one of them.
Having re-established himself as the world’s premier heavyweight, Velasquez figures to next defend his title against Alistair Overeem, should the Dutch “Demolition Man” get past Antonio Silva at UFC 156 in February. The undefeated Cormier -- who is said to be pondering a move to 205 pounds -- is on a short list of top contenders, but neither he nor Velasquez has shown an interest in battling one another.
“I wouldn’t [fight Cormier]. This is my friend, my teammate and my coach,” Velasquez told Fox Sports. “If you want to see us fight, go to AKA three days a week.”
