Will Lyoto Machida become a two-division champion at UFC 175? | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Lyoto Machida believes he can answer the question: How does one beat Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Chris Weidman.
Undefeated in 11 professional bouts, Weidman captured the middleweight crown in July, when he knocked out longstanding champion Anderson Silva in the second round of their UFC 162 headliner. A little more than seven months later, the Serra-Longo Fight Team ace defeated Silva again, “The Spider” suffering a gruesome, fight-ending leg break when Weidman checked one of his kicks.
Machida, who held the UFC’s light heavyweight title from May 23, 2009 until May 8, 2010, has recorded back-to-back victories over Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi since downshifting to 185 pounds.
