Will Dan Henderson lock up another title shot at UFC 175? | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Dan Henderson wants one last shot at an Ultimate Fighting Championship belt, and it appears as though he will need to get through Daniel Cormier to receive it.
A former two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder and two-time Olympian, Henderson last appeared at UFC Fight Night 39 on March 23, when he stopped Mauricio Rua with a sweeping right hook to the face and follow-up ground strikes at Nelio Dias Gymnasium in Natal, Brazil. The victory halted a three-fight losing streak for the beloved 43-year-old and made him the first man ever to defeat “Shogun” twice. Henderson has fought for UFC gold on two previous occasions, losing to Quinton Jackson in September 2007 and Anderson Silva in March 2008. He turns 44 in August.
Cormier, meanwhile, made his light heavyweight debut at UFC 170 in February, when he needed a little more than a minute to take care of Patrick Cummins -- a short-notice replacement for the injured Rashad Evans. The 35-year-old American Kickboxing Academy representative had gone 13-0 as a heavyweight but elected to drop to 205 pounds because of his ties to training partner and current UFC champion Cain Velasquez.
