This Day in MMA History: Oct. 9



On Oct. 9, 2010, Strikeforce was at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, with 7,559 people in attendance.

In the main event, Nick Diaz and K.J. Noons provided a sequel to their 2007 EliteXC fight, which Noons won by TKO to win the lightweight title. This time around, it was Diaz who got his hand raised, defending the Strikeforce welterweight title with a decision victory.

The card also saw Marloes Coenen become the new bantamweight champion after she submitted Sarah Kaufman. Elsewhere on the card, Josh Thomson edged out a decision over Gesias Cavalcante and Tyron Woodley TKO’d Andre Galvao in the first round.
