On Oct. 19, 2013, the Octagon touched down in Houston for UFC 166.

In the main event, Cain Velasquez defended his heavyweight title against rival Junior dos Santos in what served as the rubber match in this heavyweight trilogy. On this night, Velasquez got his hand raised for the second time in a row as he defended his belt by stopping his foe in the fifth round. The co-main event saw Daniel Cormier beat Roy Nelson by decision in what would prove to be Cormier’s last bout at heavyweight until he returned to the division to capture the heavyweight title at UFC 226.

The card also saw Gilbert Melendez beat Diego Sanchez, Gabriel Gonzaga knock out Shawn Jordan and John Dodson knock out Darren Montague.

UFC 166 was also set to see Luke Rockhold take on Tim Boetsch, but Rockhold got hurt and was replaced by C.B. Dolloway, who lost to Boetsch by split decision. Hector Lombard also picked up a knockout win, Tony Ferguson submitted Mike Rio, Andre Fili TKO’d Jeremy Larsen and opening up the card Kyoto Horiguchi TKO’d Dustin Pague.
