Although Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate were the coaches, they did not fight on the card. Instead, Nate Diaz took on Gray Maynard and scored a first-round TKO win. The win put Diaz back into the win column after back-to-back losses to Benson Henderson and Josh Thomson.

Also on the card, Julianna Pena TKO’d Jessica Rakoczy in the first round to win the TUF 18 women’s bantamweight tournament while Chris Holdsworth submitted Davey Grant in the second round to win the TUF 18 men’s bantamweight tournament. Jessamyn Duke also edged out a decision over Peggy Morgan and Raquel Pennington beat Roxanne Modafferi to open up the main card.

Other notable performances came from Jared Rosholt, who beat Walt Harris by decision, and Sean Spencer, who beat Drew Dober by decision.

Originally, the TUF 18 Finale was scheduled to feature Demetrious Johnson rematching Joseph Benavidez for the flyweight title, but the headliner was moved to UFC on Fox 9.
