Team Quest in China Blog, Part 1

Sep 18, 2011
Wenbo Liu is excited to work with Team Quest.

Beginning this week, Team Quest coaches Pat Healy and Brad Hannah will hold a six-week training camp for fighters from various Chinese teams at Xian Physical Education University in Shaanxi Province. One such fighter is Wenbo Liu, a light heavyweight who makes his Legend Fighting Championships debut on Oct. 30.

Healy and Liu will blog their experiences for Sherdog.com from both sides of the program. Our first entry comes from Liu as he readies for the camp.

It’s my final day in Beijing before I head off to Xian. Last week was pretty exciting for me. I took first place in the heavyweight division at the ADCC trials in Shanghai and second place in the absolute tournament. (Mental note: Don’t try to judo-toss a black belt in judo when you have never done judo.)

Anyway, Joe Qiao and I are getting ready for the flight. He’s really excited about this foreigner named Pat Healy. To be honest, I didn’t even know who he was until I watched his recent fight in Strikeforce. He looked pretty good and I’m really excited about learning some American wrestling for MMA. I’ve been learning jiu-jitsu under Ruy Menezes at China Top Team for the past two years and I think this will be a great addition to my game. I hear that American MMA is dominated by wrestling; they haven’t seen Chinese sanda yet.

I hope that through this blog, the American and Canadian MMA fans can get a better understanding of China. China is a great place and has a rich history of martial arts. Also, we are rising in MMA. I’m very excited about my fight with Legend Fighting Championships in October. I’m going to KO this guy!

This has been your China report from Liu Wenbo. See you soon!
