Showtime Boxing Weigh-in Results: Williams, Matano Cleared to Fight
The Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, will
be the site for Saturday night’s Showtime boxing card as Julian
Williams will face off against Marcello Matano in a 12-round IBF
junior middleweight title eliminator. At Friday’s weigh-ins, the
main combatants made weight, giving the contest the official green
light.
Williams (21-0-1, 13 KOs), a promising contender from nearby Philadelphia, has taken on a steadily-improving stream of solid opposition. That won’t change on Saturday because Matana (16-1, 5 KOs) is a tough Italian who will look to box his American counterpart.
Matano was the first to the scale and he looked as sharp as ever;
he weighed in at 150.5 pounds. Williams looked like he was chiseled
out of marble and came in officially at154 pounds.
The participants in the middleweight co-main event were equally on point as well. Antoine Douglas tipped the scale at 158.75 pounds while opponent Avtandil Khurtsidze was a bit heavier; he came in at 160.
Showtime will air the actions live starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
