The DC Armory in the nation’s capital will be overflowing with championship boxing as Showtime returns with another edition of Showtime Championship Boxing. It’s a super middleweight championship doubleheader which will be televised live starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Bute, living in Quebec but originally from Romania, tipped the scale at 167 pounds, looking ready as ever for his first fight in the U.S. since 2004. The former IBF super middleweight king will likely have his hands full against the younger Jack, who officially weighed in at 167.4 pounds.
The co-featured bout will see reigning IBF168-pound champ DeGale making his mandatory defense against Mexico’s Rogelio “Porky” Medina. DeGale won his title last May by scoring a unanimous decision over Andre Dirrell and then defended it against Bute via decision in November.
DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs), who is fighting for the third consecutive time outside of his native England, checked in at 167.6 pounds. Medina (36-6, 30 KOs), who has scored four straight knockouts, weighed 167.8 pounds.
The winners of both bouts are slated to fight each other later in the year in a quasi-unification bout, also to be televised on Showtime.
