Shelestyuk to Face Herrera in ShoBox Main Event Nov. 4

ShoBox: The New Generation returns on Nov. 4 when welterweights Taras Shelestyuk and Jaime Herrera will collide in the main event of a tripleheader on Showtime. The action will commence from within Omega Products International Event Center in Corona, Calif., with the telecast airing live at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.

A 2012 Olympic bronze medalist for Ukraine, Shelestyuk (14-0, 9 KOs) has looked terrific as a pro thus far. “Real Deal” last fought in May, when he stopped Erick Daniel Martinez after three rounds of action. He is convinced he’ll have similar success against Herrera.

“My training is going great, I am more powerful and my speed is better,” Shelestyuk said. “Herrera is a rough fighter, but it doesn't matter to me because I am looking to step up and get into championship level fights.”

Herrera (15-3-1, 8 KOs) has won three straight bouts since fighting to a draw with Steven Butler last June. He knocked out Thomas Allen in the fourth in his last outing, which was in July. He knows what he’s up against in Shelestyuk, but he’s poised to score the upset.

“Taras is a great fighter and I know I’m the underdog, but I’ve surprised some fighters before and I’m confident and ready to give it my best and win again,” said Herrera. “I’m coming into this fight with the same mentality I had in those fights against the other unbeaten guys. The way I see it, Taras has everything to lose and I fight as I have nothing to lose.”

The evening’s co-feature will see Constantin Bejenaru (11-0, 4 KOs) taking on Stivens Bujaj (16-0-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round cruiserweight encounter while Vitor Jones Freitas (12-0, 6 KOs) -- nephew of former world champion Acelino Freitas -- and Manuel Mendez (12-1-2, 8 KOs) will open the Showtime telecast in an eight-round lightweight skirmish.
