Domonique Dolton vs. Oscar Molina

Round 1

They circle each other early, pawing with the jab. Dolton looks very stiff and tense while Molina seems more relaxed. A minute in and no real punches have been thrown. Dolton goes with a few jabs. The two junior middleweights miss simultaneous left hooks. Dolton tags him with a sneaky overhand right. Jab/overhand right by Dolton with 45 seconds left. Very little action to start the fight. 10-9 Dolton.

Round 2

Molina misses with a left hook by a foot as Dolton feigns several jabs. Dolton’s darting movement is giving Molina all sorts of issues. Molina backs into the ropes and has his guts raked a few times. Molina loses his mouthpiece after he’s tagged by a check hook. Molina counters a jab with a short overhand right. They come together and Dolton is around his left eye, but it’s unclear as to whether it came via punch or head butt. Nice left hook to the head by Dolton, but he’s countered by a slick combo downstairs and up by Molina. They trade rights just before the bell. Much better action in round two. Close round. 10-9 Dolton.

Round 3

Molina cracks Dolton with a sizzling left hook as soon as the round starts. Dolton staggers back. He’s hurt but Molina can’t add any fuel to the fire. Dolton recovers well by tossing out the jab. Nice flurry by Dolton as soon as he’s fully cleared. Molina seems to be relying on one punch at a time right now, allowing Dolton to regain control. Molina is pressing the issue now, but Dolton is moving well behind the jab. Dolton fires off a left hook and it backs Molina off. Dolton comes after him but his combo to the head is blocked. They pop jabs off back and forth but Molina closes the frame with a glancing left hook to the noggin. 10-9 Molina.

Round 4

They trade some decent leather right away, but Molina is able to land another sweeping left hook. Dolton comes back with a flurry but it’s blocked. Molina fires off a couple of jabs but he’s countered by a sharp left hook/right uppercut. Molina backs into the ropes but he’s fine. Dolton second-guesses his attack, realizing his foe isn’t hurt. Dolton misses with a powerful overhand right and is countered by a jab with 40 seconds left. Very close round, but the Detroit fighter gets it. 10-9 Dolton.

Round 5

Dolton fires off several jabs, but they are of the pawing variety. Molina easy walks through them but he’s not letting his hands go early. Nice counter left uppercut on the inside from Dolton. Molina nails him with a left hook just as Dolton lands a right. Decent action at the midway point. Dolton is moving very well as he goes to the head and body. Overhand right by Molina late, but there’s nothing on it. 10-9 Dolton.

Round 6

Nice jab through the guard from Dolton as soon as the round begins. Double left hook by Molina lands, but Dolton answers with another laser of a jab. Dolton lands a combo to the head an body but Molina comes right back with a left hook. Molina continues to plod forward, throwing only one punch at a time. Finally, he pops Dolton with another hard left to the face and the Detroit fighter backs off. Dolton goes right back to the jab and tags his foe with quite a few down the stretch. Molina waits to throw that left hook – he does – but Dolton takes it well. 10-9 Dolton.

Round 7

Right cross behind the guard for Dolton early. Molina eats a few jabs before not being to counter him. Dolton’s right eye is swelling up nicely from the left hooks of Molina. Dolton stays in range and jabs away; Molina does the same. Decent right hook to the body for Dolton, but Molina comes back with a nice left hook to the body and right to the head. Molina tears into his body with a left hook. They go forehead-to-forehead and slug away at each other’s body. Hard double left hook by Molina, but Dolton counters with a right cross at the bell. Very close round. 10-9 Molina.

Round 8

Dolton stays safe early behind the jab. Molina grazes his foe with a left hook before having to block another double jab. Dolton counters a right with a left hook. Dolton has opted to go right at Molina now, and they clinch a few times. Dolton is willing to slug with him on the inside, which is actually suffocating Molina’s power. They trade a few jabs and now Dolton is back with the movement. Nice left hook by Molina with under a minute left. Molina misses three straight left hooks. Hard left hook to the body by Molina and then he drills his foe with a powerful left hook to the jaw just before the bell. It’s his best punch in several rounds and it likely won him the round. 10-9 Molina.

Round 9

Molina misses a wild left uppercut very early into the round. Dolton clips with him a counter right but there’s no zip on it. Molina steps in and digs a left hook to the ribs. Nice flurry to the head and body by Dolton as he springs off the ropes a minute into the frame. Dolton pops him with a right/left uppercut on the inside, but Molina comes right back with an overhand right. They trade uppercuts to the bread basket before Molina lands a hard right uppercut on the way out. Molina tags him with a left hook but Dolton slams a hard straight right into his teeth. Very good round and it’s yet another close one. 10-9 Dolton.

Round 10

Going into the final round, the fight appears to be up for grabs. Many of the rounds have been extremely close. It’s likely that whoever wins this round could win the fight. Dolton opens the frame with a loopy overhand right. Molina misses a left hook but Dolton pops him with one in return. Molina digs a furious left uppercut to the body. Another. Now a right. Dolton takes them all and stays close. Molina is much more aggressive but he misses a monster of a left hook. Dolton is right there in the pocket, closing the gap when he needs to. Dolton rips off a five-punch combo to the head and body while he smothers Molina’s power. Molina telegraphs a pair of left hooks that are easily blocked. Beautiful exchange in the center of the ring with a minute left. Dolton lets his hands go and touches his foe Molina with a series of shots. Molina nails him with a right, but Dolton bites down and unloads a right and left to the head. They go toe-to-toe for the final 15 seconds, bringing the Pearl audience to their collective feet. Great action to close it out. 10-9 Dolton (96-94 Dolton).

Javier Fortuna vs. Carlos Velasquez

Round 1

Fortuna comes out in his southpaw stance and quickly digs to the body. Velasquez follows suit and goes downstairs as well. Nice combo to the head and body by Fortuna, punctuated by a left hook. Velasquez backs into the ropes, possibly stung by the left. He seems okay after he ties Fortuna up. Fortuna lands another nice left hand and he is very relaxed. Velasquez appears to be a little antsy early and ties the titlist up whenever he gets inside. Nice straight left to the body by Fortuna. They trade decent leather late and suddenly Fortuna has a cut on the bridge of his nose. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 2

They quickly exchange wild hooks but Fortuna chases him down with a pair of loopy overhand rights. Velasquez backs off and once Fortuna gets close, he ties him up. A pair of jabs and then a straight right by Velasquez. Fortuna is aggressive but Velasquez continuously turns into an octopus. With just under a minute left, Velasquez ducks under a left but is cracked by a right hook and drops to his the seat of his trunks. It’s more of a flash knockdown as he gets up quickly; When they resume, Fortuna is all over him and Velasquez is in 100 percent retreat mode, tying him up and running away. 10-8 Fortuna.

Round 3

Fortuna immediately pounces on his challenger, slamming shots to the head and body. Velasquez wants nothing to do with it as he takes several crushing shots to the body. After a flurry, Velasquez is pouring blood from his nose and mouth. Fortuna finally backs off, trying to set his foe up. Velasquez’ nose has to be shattered but he’s hanging in there. Fortuna stays outside, picking him off with jabs and lead lefts. Fortuna is darting in and out and shoe-shines him between verbal barbs of trash talk. Velasquez is more aggressive late and lands a decent left hook near the bell. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 4

Fortuna lands a series of jabs early, keeping Velasquez at bay. Nice right hook before exiting a flurry by Fortuna. Fortuna has completely changed his approach early and it’s allowing Velasquez to gain confidence. Beautiful to the head and body from Fortuna flusters the challenger. Velasquez tries coming in but he’s reduced to throwing only one punch at a time. Overhand right by Fortuna late. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 5

Velasquez misses a right/left as soon as the round starts but Fortuna doesn’t make him pay. Fortuna is darting in and out and on his bike quite a bit, forcing Velasquez to chase after him. Velasquez can’t get his offense going at all as he’s unable to cut off the ring. Fortuna goes to the body and head, but there’s nothing on any of it. Velasquez tags him with a right cross late. Very little action until the bell. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 6

Velasquez’ nose is still a bloody faucet to start the stanza. Fortuna is boxing in and out and he’s having fun toying with the Puerto Rican. Fortuna pops him with a few jabs and then nails him with a nice right uppercut. Velasquez dives in and tries to fight back but Fortuna unfurls a nice flurry before escaping. Fortuna looks to the side of the ring and then nails his foe with a straight left. Velasquez is able to land a straight right very late but Fortuna shake it off. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 7

Velasquez lands a sweeping right cross early but Fortuna answers him with a right of his own. Velasquez tries to bully his way inside, but Fortuna just ties him up. Fortuna pops him with a few jabs in between avoiding a left and right. Fortuna eats a left hook but he avoids most everything else Velasquez tosses at him at the midway point. Fortuna remains in cruise control but Velasquez comes through with a moderate right to the schnozzola. Fortuna continues to stick and move until the bell. 10-0 Fortuna.

Round 8

Velasquez misses a right hook and then eats a right in return. Velasquez answers with a decent combo to the head and body before Fortuna ties him up. Fortuna lands a double jab. Velasquez continues to try and get his shots off, but Fortuna’s movement is giving him all sorts of problems. Velasquez has his wild overhand right blocked as he continues to lose blood. They clinch several times late but Fortuna does catch him with a nice lead right. A flurry to the head, capped by a right hook, staggers Velasquez into the ropes at the bell. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 9

Velasquez ties his foe up after taking a few jabs early. Fortuna sticks a left into Velasquez’ stomach and then cracks him with a right to the head. Velasquez misses with a monster right hook and falls down. He looks worn out and takes a while to get to his feet. Fortuna eventually opens up and rips some firepower to his challenger’s body. They trade rights to the jaw with a minute left. Velasquez is gassing out badly late and he’s ready to be stopped. Fortuna has returned to be the aggressor and goes to the head and body. Left/right to the head rocks Velasquez at the bell and he stumbles across the ring, to his corner. 10-9 Fortuna.

Round 10

Velasquez backs away immediately. Fortuna is in Terminator mode, tearing into his from all angles. Velasquez backs into the ropes and has to cover up, looking for a way out. Russell Mora has seen enough and steps in before Velasquez gets his block knocked off. Great stoppage. Fortuna performs a somersault once it’s stopped.
