Paulie Malignaggi Cut, Comeback Derailed
Former world champion Paulie Malignaggi had decided to forego
retirement for the moment and was slated to fight Danny O’Connor in
a few weeks in Brooklyn. But a severe cut suffered in training has
curtailed the return of “Magic Man” for the time being, ultimately
scrapping the junior lightweight matchup.
The fight was supposed to anchor the Spike TV-televised Premier Boxing Champions clash between Amir Khan and Chris Algieri on May 29 inside the Barclays Center. But the cut over his eye has forced the postponement.
Filling in for the scrapped scrap will be Javier Fortuna taking on Bryan Vasquez in a junior welterweight matchup.
