Overeem Out to Silence Critics
Alistair Overeem, a former light heavyweight, has transformed
himself into a 6-foot-5, 260-pound heavyweight machine in the past
five years. He has gone unbeaten in his past 11 fights, winning the
Dream
and Strikeforce
heavyweight titles and the 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix in the
process.
Many critics will whisper about steroids when an athlete undergoes that much of a transformation. The steroid talk heated up recently when the Nevada State Athletic Commission had trouble obtaining a random pre-fight drug test from Overeem (35-11) leading up to his fight against former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (5-2) at UFC 141 on Friday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
After a lot of confusion, Overeem eventually got the proper test to the commission and it came up negative, so the fight with Lesnar is on.
