Mickey Rourke’s Boxing Opponent in Russia: ‘I Was Told Specifically To Go Down in the 2nd’

Mickey Rourke defeated Elliot Seymour via second-round knockout in a boxing match on Nov. 28 in Russia. But according to Seymour, that was planned from the very beginning.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Seymour claims that he was handpicked by Rourke’s management team to lose in the actor’s return to the boxing ring.

“I was told specifically to go down in the second [round],” Seymour told TMZ. “They told me to come out in the first round, throw some jabs, feel it out and in the second round catch a body shot and go down.”

As far as the 1-10 boxer knew, the 62-year-old actor had absolutely no idea that Seymour was instructed to lose.

“As far as I know Mickey [Rourke] had no knowledge of this, he was in the dark. Mickey is a stand up guy, I think he’s a nice man and a great actor,” Seymour said. “He didn’t have anything to do with the fix being in, that was all his people. When you’re a powerful person you have a lot of people kissing up to you for various different reasons.”

As far as his future goes in the sport of professional boxing, Seymour hopes to eventually return to the squared circle. It’s hard to imagine a commission sanctioning a fight for Seymour with how public this situation has become, but the 29-year-old is keeping his fingers crossed.

“I went over there, I had an agenda that I was given by people that were behind the scenes. I hope to maybe come back and have a legitimate fight,” Seymour said. “But I had a great experience in Russia and hope to come back.”
