MMA Notes: Take Care of MMA Fix with Bellator

Many casual sports fans still think of mixed martial arts as “ultimate fighting.”

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has done such an incredible job getting the UFC brand out there to the masses that people equate MMA to “ultimate fighting” or the UFC. The promotion will take another huge step toward the mainstream with its debut on Fox Nov. 12.

The UFC has crushed its competition while raising its profile, but there are other MMA promotions out there putting on quality shows. Bellator Fighting Championships is one of them, and has been slowly building an audience with its tournament-style format on MTV2.

Fighters must win single-elimination, eight-man tournaments to get a shot at the promotion’s divisional champions. Obviously, Bellator doesn’t have the same level of depth in its roster as the UFC, but the organization has developed exciting champions such as Eddie Alvarez, Joe Warren and Ben Askren.
