Lesnar Did Not Envision Himself in Dos Santos’ Place at UFC on Fox 1
Brock Lesnar had an up-close view, as Junior dos Santos -- the
man the former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar was slated
to meet in a heavyweight title eliminator over the summer before
another health scare sidelined him -- dethroned Cain Velasquez in
the UFC on Fox
1 main event in November. It was Lesnar’s first appearance at a
live
UFC event since Velasquez ended his championship reign more
than a year earlier. During a pre-fight teleconference for UFC
141, where he will lock horns with Alistair Overeem, Lesnar
admitted it got the competitive juices flowing:
“It’s the old saying: you can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy. For me, getting back in there felt wonderful. The atmosphere was great. Of course, I’m a competitor. Everything felt good. There was definitely a lot of electricity in the air. I didn’t sit there and envision myself out there at all. I had health issues, and I understood that. I’m happy for Junior, but I believe someday I’ll get my chance at that opportunity.”
