Jon Jones: I Fight for More Than Just the Belt

UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones will attempt to defend his title for the fifth time against Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 on Saturday. While a victory would tie him with Tito Ortiz for most title defenses all-time within the division, the Jackson’s MMA Product said during a recent conference call that he fights for more than just 205-pound gold:

"I definitely fight for more than just the belt. I have two brothers that are in the NFL. What drives me is to not be the lesser brother – not to be the brother who didn't quite make it or the one who needs to borrow money 10 years from now. It drives me to show that a UFC fighter can have the type of success that an NFL player can have if not more. Another thing that drives me is my kids. I can’t let them down. Another thing that drives me is knowing I inspire a lot of people. I get that a lot. It’s something that I have a lot of pride in. That's why I tweet a lot of motivational things and try to be positive. If I quote someone or say something that makes someone better, that means a lot to me to be able change someone's life. I won’t be able to do that if I don’t have a platform. Being a champion means more than having the belt."
