Apparently capturing a world title is no longer paramount to perennial contender John Molina Jr. He is slated to face reigning WBC and WBO super lightweight champion Terence Crawford on Saturday night but at Friday’s weigh-ins, Molina didn’t make weight. He wasn’t even close.
With Molina coming in at 144 pounds, he will likely be fined a percentage of the purse but regardless of what happens inside the ring tomorrow night, the Californian will not be able to win the titles. Crawford (29-0, 20) came in at 139.6 pounds and will obviously retain his titles with a win. But if “Bud” happens to lose to Molina, then his titles will be vacated.
HBO will televise the action beginning at 9:35 p.m. ET/6:35 p.m. PT.
