LAS VEGAS -- The talk of the world's best pound-for-pound boxer possibly waiting until May 2016 to rematch Manny Pacquiao has officially been put bed. Floyd Mayweather Jr. told the assembled media in his Las Vegas gym that he’s returning to action this year and his 49th professional bout will be held in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Though no opponent has officially been named, all signs point to British superstar Amir Khan as the next foe “Money” will face. Mayweather has secured Sept. 12 as the date for his next conquest and Showtime Pay-Per-View will televise the contest. It is expected to be another monumental event, though it likely won’t come close to matching the bonanza that was his tussle with Pacquiao on May 2.

Mayweather joked with the media about fighting Oscar de la Hoya again, who is rumored to be coming out of retirement. Mayweather acknowledged to Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal the name “Gennady Golovkin” but he was non-committal about fighting him.

Mayweather didn’t mention Khan by name and Mayweather’s advisor Leonard Ellerbe said that the team has “a lot of options,” while Mayweather said he will choose his next opponent.

Mayweather appeared at his gym to meet the media and sign autographs for fans during the open workouts for Shawn Porter and TMT chum Adrien Broner. The unveiling of his next opponent will likely be unveiled in the next few weeks, but when pressed about Khan -- who most everybody believes will be next for Floyd -- the world’s highest-grossing athlete refused to confirm or deny it.
