The seventh session of Fight Promoter University, the brainchild of longtime combat sports promoter Roy Englebrecht, will be held Aug. 3-6 in Irvine, Calif.

Paid speakers will include Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schafer, famed mixed martial arts referee “Big” John McCarthy and Sherdog.com News Editor Loretta Hunt.

Besides the 12 classroom sessions featuring 18 guest speakers, all students at FPU VII will work the hybrid Battle in the Ballroom show, experiencing firsthand how to set up a venue for boxing and MMA, ushering, fighters walk-ins, etc. The four-day FPU VII session costs $1,499 to complete and includes all instruction, meals, shared hotel room for three nights, the 260-page FPU manual, an FPU credential and merchandise.

In the past four years, more than 150 students have graduated from Fight Promoter University, and nearly one-third of them have secured promoters licenses. Past alumni include World Championship Fighting’s Joe Cavallaro and Ultimate Cage Fighting Challenge’s Gregg Holtzmann.

Engelbrecht expects students from 10 states and two foreign countries -- England and Nigeria -- to attend Fight Promoter University VII. The event will feature the first-ever MMA and boxing roundtable discussion.
