Showtime announced on Wednesday that junior welterweight powerhouse Bakhtiyar Eyubov will look to score another knockout as he takes on Sonny Frederickson on Aug. 4. The pair will serve as the co-feature to the WBC women’s super middleweight world title fight between champion Nikki Adler (16-0, 9 KOs) and two-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields’ (3-0, 1 KO).
“I simply want to fight the best,” Eyubov said. “Sonny is a skilled fighter who I know will come to fight. I look forward to putting on a great show for fans at MGM Detroit and those watching on Showtime. Expect a special performance on August 4.”
Frederickson, though, is no pushover. A native of Ohio, Fredrickson (17-0, 11 KOs) has been just as impressive in the pro ranks and should give Eyubov the stiffest challenge of his career. “Pretty Boi” is coming off a sixth-round TJO of Daniel Montoya in May and is pumped to be taking on another unbeaten prospect.
“Going up against another undefeated fighter will be a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills in front of the world,” Frederickson stated. “Personally, I feel like I have much to prove and I’m looking forward to making a strong statement against a tough, quality fighter. I’ve been training hard to get this chance and I’m looking forward to putting together a great performance.”
The opening bout of the telecast will see super bantamweight contender Vladimir Tikhonov (15-0, 9 KOs) taking on Jesse Angel Hernandez (8-1, 6 KOs). The action will be broadcast live on Showtime from inside MGM Grand Detroit in Detroit, Mich., beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET/7 :30 p.m. PT.
