Bruce Lee Movie ‘Birth of the Dragon’ Set for Aug. 25 Release

Bruce Lee, arguably the most influential martial artist to ever live, is having another movie made about him, but this one is going to be a bit different. “ Birth of the Dragon,” which debuts in movie theatres across the nation on Aug. 25, not only chronicles Lee’s rise to fame, it centers around the one fight that catapulted his legend.

“The Birth of the Dragon” is set against the backdrop of 1960’s San Francisco and details the San Francisco native’s ascent from obscurity as a young man who evolved into the legendary Jeet Kune Do icon. The film will detail the myriad movies he starred in, but his private match against rival Wong Jack Man in ’64 is the focus of the movie.

Lee, played by Hong Kong native Philip Ng (Zombie Fight Club, Invisible Target, New Police Story), eventually challenges Man (played by Yu Xia) to a duel after tensions between the two come to a head. Anybody who knows anything about Lee already knows what transpired in their battle but director George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum, Ocean’s Twelve) has put a modern spin on the classic movies that Lee’s legend was birthed from.
