Brandon Rios Returns to Face Aaron Herrera in June 11 PBC on FS1 Card

Former world champion Brandon Rios is set to return to the ring to take on Aaron Herrera in a special Sunday edition of PBC on FS1 on June 11. The hard-hitting former world champion will face the rugged Mexican veteran at the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster, Calif., with the action being televised starting at 10:30 pm. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.

Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) knocked out Miguel Acosta in 2011 to capture a lightweight world title. From there, he out-slugged Mike Alvarado and won two of the three bouts in their epic trilogy but fell to both Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley. When he lost via ninth-round TKO to Bradley back in November of 2015, “Bam Bam” retired from the sport but now the Oxnard native wants back in.

“This is my first fight in Southern California in almost five years and I can't wait to put on a show for those fans who have supported me throughout my career,” said Rios. “I've always given the fans a great show and I'm planning on picking up right where I left off and being better than ever when I get back in the ring. I've been training for a while in preparation for a great victory on June 11.”

Herrera (32-6-1, 21 KOs) has won his last three bouts, all by knockout. The Mexican is coming off an eighth-round stoppage of Mario Alberto Cruz in March and hopes to bring his firepower into war against the man who will clearly be his best opponent to date.

“This is a terrific opportunity for me to face a fighter the caliber of Brandon Rios,” said Herrera. “He's had a great career and fought many champions and I look forward to giving him everything I have. Fighting Rios is a great test for me and I'll be ready to pass on June 11.”

Televised coverage on FS1 begins with Mario Barrios (18-0, 10 KOs) taking on Jose Luis Rodriguez (23-8-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight duel. Jose Miguel Borrego (11-0, 10 KOs) will also face off against Kevin Watts (11-1, 4 KOs) in a lightweight eight-rounder.
