The Nov. 28 boxing card at Videotron Centre in Quebec City today absorbed a crushing blow to its marquee.

Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) was slated to appear in one of the featured undercard bouts, but event promoters on Tuesday announced that Beterbiev suffered a shoulder injury in training and has been removed from the card. Beterbiev did not yet have an opponent for his Thanksgiving weekend battle.

The powerful two-time Russian Olympian won’t be competing at all after seeing Dr. Francis Fontaine and surgeon Dr. David Baillargeon. It was announced that Beterbiev will have to undergo minor surgery to repair the damage.

“Under my supervision, Artur had a magnetic resonance examination Friday,” Dr. Fontaine explained in a statement. “After a meeting this morning, we have decided that Artur’s surgery would be performed in the next few days by specialist Dr. Baillargeon. We expect a complete recovery followed by a return to the ring at the beginning of 2016.”

Set to headline the card is a IBF super middleweight title fight between champion James DeGale and former world champ Lucian Bute. Also booked for the bill is an IBF light heavyweight eliminator matchup between Isaac Chilemba and Eleider Alvarez.
