Steve Cantwell vs. Cyrille Diabate
The Matchup: An unheralded addition when the WEC’s three heaviest divisions were folded into the UFC, Cantwell may be the most underappreciated 7-3 fighter in the sport. Just 1-2 in the UFC, his losses have come via decisions to the resurgent Brian Stann and Luis Artur Cane Jr.

Diabate is a world-class kickboxer who has made a successful MMA crossover. His ground game remains a work in progress, and, after more than a decade in the game, it probably is not going to get much better. After knocking out Cane in his UFC debut, he was steamrolled by Alexander Gustaffson at UFC 120 in October.
Cantwell’s layoff could be a key factor here, but the matchup should give him time to adjust, as Diabate will not be shooting any Mark Coleman-style takedowns. Cantwell’s kicks and combinations are outstanding, and Diabate’s 6-foot-6 frame will give him plenty of target space on which to work. Diabate will be best served by countering Cantwell’s kicks with straight shots, as the former WEC champion scoots in and out.
If it hits the ground, Cantwell should have a clear advantage. He may not be an overpowering wrestler, but he can use positional improvements to open up striking opportunities while keeping Diabate busy and on the defensive.
The Pick: This could be a rousing two-way standup war that never sees the canvas. Either way, Cantwell is too well-rounded and young to be turned back here. “The Robot” wins by third-round stoppage.
