Mayweather squared off with Shane Mosley in a showdown between two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport on May 1, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was televised in 29 countries, including the United States, and generated $78.3 million in revenue, per HBO reports. Despite the fact that “Money” walked away with a lopsided unanimous decision (119-109, 119-109, 118-110), not all went according to plan. Mosley threw and landed more often than Mayweather through the first six minutes and staggered the 1996 Olympic bronze medalist with a clean right hand in the second round. Early success proved to be fool’s gold, as Mayweather’s superior defensive skills seized control over the ensuing frames. According to CompuBox data, Mosley landed in the single digits in nine of the 12 rounds and wound up connecting on a paltry 14 percent of his total punches. By the time it was over, Mayweather had delivered nearly three times as many power punches and improved his record to 41-0.
