Showtime Boxing Weigh-in Results: Broner, Granados On Point
Showtime is set to unleash a tripleheader of fistic fireworks on
Saturday with an all Adrien/Adrian main event anchoring the event.
Three-division world champion Adrien Broner will lock horns with
Adrian Granados and at Friday’s weigh-ins, all of the main card
fighters made weight.
Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) reportedly had trouble making the original 142-pound catchweight limit a week ago, thus switching his bout with Granados to a full-blown welterweight scrap. It was a wise choice by “The Problem,” who weighed in just under the division’s limit at 146.5 pounds. Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs) has won five straight bouts and looked as primed as he possibly could be for what will be the biggest fight of his career. The Cicero, Ill., resident came in identically to Broner at 146.5 pounds.
The co-feature will see Russia’s David Avanesyan (22-1-1, 11 KOs) square off with Lamont Peterson for the vacant WBA welterweight title. Both men looked like they were chiseled out of marble as they weighed in. Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KOs), a former lightweight and super lightweight world champion, checked in at 146.5 pounds. Avanesyan was a bit heavier; he weighed 147 pounds.
The action will take place inside the Cintas Center at Xavier University in Broner’s hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Showtime will begin the telecast live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
