David Cooke Blazes Through Kohei Takegami in 87 Seconds at ONE Friday Fights 63

Britain’s David Cooke prepared a delightful breakfast of violence in a hurry on Friday morning.

The latest offering of One Championship’s Friday Fights series staged one single MMA bout on the lineup. This curtain-jerker saw Cooke (2-0, 1-0 ONE) put on a quick and exhilarating performance against Kohei Takegami (3-4, 1 NC; 0-1 ONE) in his promotional debut. The 21-year-old Cooke claimed a knockout victory in 87 seconds to open up ONE Friday Fights 63.

Right from the opening bell, Cooke treated fans in the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium to action. Cooke was quick to pressure his foe, backing him up with jabs and a stiff right hand. Once he had Takegami against the ropes, the Englishman unleashed slicing elbows and knees before tying his man up to control the action. After the two disengaged, Takegami attempted to turn things around by getting his offense going.

Cooke shrugged off attacks with his guard held high, and he walked Takegami down until he drilled the Japanese competitor with a counter left hook. Takegami’s balance gave way as the shot found its home, and the Knowlesy Academy export connected with a second hook that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas. From there, it was academic, as Cooke pounded out his adversary with punches until referee Mohamad Sulaiman waved off the contest at 1:27 of Round 1.

Meanwhile, the rest of the card took place under muay thai rules. In the main attraction, Yodphupa Wimanair clinched a hard-fought majority decision victory against Soner Sen in their 145-pound matchup; Sanpet Sor Salacheep picked up a knockout of Nuengubon Wankhongohm MBK at 2:14 in Round 2 at a 130-pound catchweight; Chatpichit SorSorToipadriew won a decision over longtime rival Sagaengarm Jitmuangnon in their 113-pound catchweight meeting; Pansak Wor Wantawee walked away with a unanimous decision win over Pornsanae Sor Phumipat in their 127-pound catchweight affair; Patakake Sinbimuaythai scored an emphatic knockout of Tuangsap Sor Salacheep with a vicious elbow 1:11 into the second frame at 128 pounds; 126-pounder Chartpayak Saksatoon slept Mowgli Chor Ajalaboon with a nasty hook at 2:04 into Round 1; Rak Erawan earned the nod on all three scorecards against Nicolas Leite Silva in a 117-pound catchweight pairing; Sulaiman Looksuan returned to the win column with a unanimous decision over Tomoki Sato in their 135-pound clash; Kimura Ayumu also bagged a unanimous decision against Silviu Vitez in their 135-pound bout; and Gregor Thom picked up a first-round knockout by dropping Taku Kondo three times with elbows and getting the finish at 2:09 to wrap up their 136-pound match.
