Sadibou Sy Praises Dilano Taylor’s Toughness, Says He Was Aiming to Finish Him in Round 2

2022 was the year of Sadibou Sy in the Professional Fighters League.

After participating in the three previous editions, Sy (13-6-2, 1 NC; 7-4-2, 1 NC PFL) finally took home the coveted PFL 170-pound championship in addition to the $1 million prize. It was clear nothing would stop “The Swedish Denzel Washington” on his path to glory as he defeated some quality opponents en route to the finals, including former Bellator MMA 170-pound kingpin Rory MacDonald. On the 2022 PFL Championships card, Sy locked horns with Dilano Taylor, who proved to be a tougher bone to chew than expected. Ahead of the fight, Sy anticipated finishing his foe inside the second frame, but that wasn’t the case. While Sy dominated throughout the clash, he did have to sweat for five rounds before picking up a well-deserved unanimous decision and the final victory.

“To be honest, it was not [the fight I expected]. I was expecting… Not expecting, that's the wrong word. I was hoping to get him out of there in the second round or something like that but he was actually better than I expected, and he came prepared. We knew that he was good, but we didn't know how good because he came in as an alternate for all his previous fights in PFL. We knew that he got 15 weeks to prepare, so he was gonna come ready, at his best. The best Dilano ever was the guy that we were gonna face. I expected him to be good, [but] he was a little bit tougher than I expected. With that being said, I thought that it was gonna be easier to get the fight where I wanted to.”
