Beatdown: Tim Boetsch, Greg Jackson

TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood returned to the Sherdog Radio Network Wednesday for another edition of “Beatdown.” Joining the program today was UFC 172 participant Tim Boetsch and mixed martial arts trainer Greg Jackson.

A little over a year ago it was Boetsch that was knocking on the door of a UFC title shot. “The Barbarian” ripped off four straight wins after dropping down to the UFC’s middleweight division. With impressive wins over perennial contender Yushin Okami and former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard it appeared that the AMC Pankration product was next in line for then champion Anderson Silva. Instead Boetsch was scheduled to face Chris Weidman who pulled out of their UFC 155 match setting up Boetsch with what oddsmakers considered to be an over matched Costas Phillippou. After an upset loss to Phillippou, dropping a decision to Mark Munoz, and a controversial decision victor over CB Dollaway Boetsch now finds himself as a sizeable underdog to former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 172. Boetsch joins TJ and Jeff to discuss the ups and downs of the last year, how he plans to establish himself again as a top tier contender, and if he feels disrespected when he hears that some lines have Rockhold as a 10 to 1 favorite.

Greg Jackson continues to be heralded as one of the best trainers in mixed martial arts. The Albuquerque based coach joins “Beatdown” Wednesday to talk about upcoming bouts for pupils Travis Browne, Clay Guida, Tim Kennedy, and others. Jackson also breaks down last weekend’s performance of women’s bantamweight standout Holly Holm.
