Holloway and Chan Sung Jung engaged in an entertaining slugfest in the UFC Fight Night 225 main event before “Blessed” ended the festivities with a knockout 23 seconds into Round 3 of their featherweight clash at Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday. After the fight, Jung laid his gloves down in the Octagon, (probably) signaling an end to a 25-bout career. Holloway, meanwhile, is still going strong with wins in four of his last five outings. While another title shot is unlikely as long as Alexander Volkanovski reigns, the popular Hawaiian is still one of the best in the division — as reflected by his return to the No. 2 overall ranking.
Elsewhere, Erin Blanchfield won her sixth straight contest in UFC competition, rallying for a unanimous decision triumph over Taila Santos in a key flyweight matchup. By vanquishing a recent title challenger, “Cold Blooded” looks primed to make her own run at UFC gold in the near future.
Meanwhile, Olivier Aubin-Mercier extended his winning streak to nine by pounding out Bruno Miranda in a lightweight semifinal at PFL 9. “The Canadian Gangster” will look to make it back-to-back championships in the PFL against Clay Collard on Nov. 24, and in the meantime, he climbs to No. 12 in the lightweight poll. In other weekend action, No. 14 lightweight Anthony Smith and No. 14 featherweight Giga Chikadze held serve with victories over Ryan Spann and Alex Caceres, respectively, on the “UFC Singapore” main card.
